How to Choose the Right Vanity for your Bathroom
It may not seem like the most important decision in your bathroom renovation, but choosing the right vanity can make or break your bathroom’s design.
Before you even start thinking about materials and colours, you must first consider placement, plumbing, size and even storage. Then and only then, can you move onto the aesthetics.
At Lux Interiors, we’re here to help guide you through every aspect of the design process. That’s why we’ve put together some pro’s and con’s of bathroom vanities to help make your choice easier.
Let’s take a look:
Floor-Mounted Vanity:
The industry standard height for vanities is 900mm from the floor to the top of the basin. As all of our vanities are custom made, we can also manufacture them to sit at the perfect height according to your own size.
Floor Mounted vanities work best with a nib wall as a divider, allowing the vanity to then be installed hard up against the nib wall. Tiling afterwards leaves a seamless finish with no remaining gaps to clean.
Perfect for those looking to maximise the size of their shower, without comprising on vanity length, the shower screen can be cut around the nib wall and installed on the outer edge, creating a shelf inside the shower.
Pros:
- Increased storage space.
- Less cleaning required.
- Not required to chase and hide waste into the wall.
Cons:
- Increased coverage of the floor space can make the room appear smaller
Floor-Mounted Vanity with Waterfall End:
Similar to a regular Floor Mounted vanity except for the added 40mm stone top edge and waterfall end to the floor. The main difference is the fact that the shower screen is cut around the waterfall end, and siliconed for a waterproofed finish. This – together with the lack of a nib wall – means there is no longer storage shelf within the shower, but added space in the shower and a cleaner look.
Pros:
- Longer vanity
- Modern and streamlined look
Cons:
- More expensive than a nib wall with no storage shelf inside the shower
Wall-Hung Vanity:
Wall-Hung vanities are mounted to the wall at a height of your choice – generally 850-900mm from the ground to the top of the basin.
TIP: If you have a small bathroom, a Wall-Hung Bathroom Vanity can often make the room appear larger and less cluttered.
Elevated from floor level with no base, Wall-Hung vanities are anchored to the walls for support giving it the appearance that it’s floating.
Pros:
- Creates illusion of more space
- Modern and streamlined look
Cons:
- Reduced storage space
- Extra cleaning under vanity required
- Extra plumbing costs
